![]() Natural, genuine, synthetic, simulated, enhanced, diffused, irradiated, dyed, HPHT ... and the terms go on for a very long list. If you do not know what they mean or how they can change a diamond or colored gemstone ... then you need to talk to a gemologist. Few jewelry stores today have a Gemologist to speak to when you have questions regarding the identity and quality of a diamond or colored gemstone. This is what sets Schuck Jewelers apart from other stores. Not only is Lauren L. Bechtol a Gemologist but he also is a Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America. This credential is listed as "G.G. GIA" and follows the name. This worldwide recognized gemological credential demonstrates a high level of gemological training and education within the jewelry industry. Lauren first discovered rocks and minerals in the fifth grade when a rock hound made a visit to his school. Although he was born and raised around diamonds and colored gemstones in the family business, it was the rocks, minerals and later fossils which became his focus of study. Lauren formalized this interest by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Kent State University in 1973. He has met the rigorous educational training to become first a Gemologist and then a Graduate Gemologist in 1985. Since then, Lauren has maintained his knowledge with continuing education from many sources every year. The science of gemology is constantly changing and needs to stay ahead of those who may be treating or enhancing diamonds and colored gemstones without disclosure. Although Schuck Jewelers Ltd. has standard and advanced gem laboratory equipment, we recognize today we need to partner at times with world-class labs. The GIA Gem Trade Lab, the American Gemological Society Gemological Laboratories and the labs of the American Gem Trade Association are utilized when our customers need the best in identification and grading a challenging stone. Available Gemological Services
Please note that not all of the above services are performed in our gem lab. However, by partnering with the previously mentioned labs, all of the services are available and coordinated by Lauren L. Bechtol, G.G. GIA. ![]() |
