Consumer laws and business regulations place the burden on consumers to inquire about such policies before you buy. Businesses are required to have a set of policies and many are to be posted in some form to be available for inspection. Businesses are not required to inform each consumer about all the policies, rules and regulations governing a consumer transaction verbally at the time of sale. The Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of the State of Ohio remind consumers to...

"Ask Before You Buy"

Schuck Jewelers Ltd. is an independent family jewelry store and has been for nearly 100 years. We have maintained doing business in the same community of Bryan during our entire history. To have survived all these years, requires us to treat our customers with fairness. We do not have Wall Street stock holders to bail us out and the ability to declare bankruptcy every few years to shed our debt and return to the community a "stronger" business. Our policies are very similar to independent family businesses everywhere and are written with our continued existence and fairness to our customers at the same time. We request you respect them.

Purchases - Exchange Privileges

To provide the best quality, value and service to our customers, we require any exchanges* be made within 30 days** from the date of the sales receipt, in new, unused and unworn condition, including all supplied packaging materials, warranties and accompanied by the original sales receipt. Special orders and modified or custom pieces are not exchangeable. There are NO CASH REFUNDS. Exchanges for less than the original amount will be issued in the form of a gift card or credit memo for any remaining balance.

*For the protection of the health of our customers and to follow health codes of the State of Ohio, we cannot accept returns of any pierced earrings.

**All Christmas gift exchanges are to be made by December 31st. Any exceptions to these policies will be noted on the receipt in writing. (Posted as required by The Ohio Revised Code, Section 1345.03 et. al.)

Layaway Policy

Items may be put on layaway for up to three months with a minimum 10% deposit. A monthly payment is required. Any cancelled layaway within the 3 month period, or an article with no payment for 45 days, may result in a 15% restocking fee and, any remaining balance on account will be issued as a gift card and the article returned to inventory. All special orders and modified or custom pieces, are non-cancellable and if unclaimed after 45 days from the initial deposit will result in forfeiture of all payments. Any exceptions will be noted on the receipt. (Reference Ohio Revised Code, Substantive Rules, Chap. 109.4-3-07 et. al.)

Special Orders

A special order will be considered a purchase, and is exempt from traditional exchange privileges unless special arrangements (i.e., a pass through restocking charge assessed by the supplier) are agreed to at the time the order is placed. Since most of our suppliers and manufacturers have non-cancellable and non-returnable policies immediately upon placing an order, we are not able to offer exchanges or cancel options for special orders. In addition, the metal markets are very volatile and price quotes are subject to change without notice from the manufacturers. A standard down payment requirement for special orders is usually 50% of the estimated price. Schuck Jewelers will try our best to supply special orders at the quoted price. However, supplied estimates are usually based on the average metal weight and the average gemstone weight of a given item of jewelry. Metal and gemstone weights vary from piece to piece and are priced to us on the actual weight/price and therefore we must pass on the actual price upon receipt of item. In addition, Schuck Jewelers cannot be held responsible for a price change from the manufacturer when done without notice. Any additional requirements or restrictions will be agreed to at the time the order is placed.

Gift Card

A Gift Card will be considered a purchase. Therefore, once purchased, there is no cash refund. Recent changes in State of Ohio consumer laws have prohibited any expiration date or accessible charges over time if not used. Our gift cards may be used for any stock item purchase, special order or a repair. There are no restrictions on the use. Any unused portion will be credited on the gift card for future use.

Gemstone Weights and Enhancements

Any diamond or colored gemstone sold as a "total weight" may vary within the industrial fractional standards. To improve color and/or stability, the gemstones offered for sale may have been treated or enhanced including, but not limited to: heating, oiling, waxing, diffusion or irradiation. All attempts are made to avoid selling any unstable enhancements and all known gemstone enhancements which are meant for fraudulent purposes. Gemstone enhancements can be very complicated, therefore, for detailed information or any questions before or after the sale, please request to speak to our Graduate Gemologist.

Warranties

  • Original Purchased Merchandise - Any available written warranties on merchandise are available for your inspection and questions. Many are placed in the merchandise box. However, in the jewelry industry, much of the merchandise is sold without written warranties. In this case, Schuck Jewelers will work with our customers and our suppliers/manufacturers as a liaison to bring the damaged or defective item of jewelry back to the proper state of use at a minimal cost to our customer. Under no circumstance does Schuck Jewelers issue a written warranty of performance in lieu of an absent warranty from the manufacturer.

Considering the above statements, Schuck Jewelers takes pride in our merchandise and our suppliers/manufacturers. We purchase most of our jewelry from American manufacturers who have a reputation of producing quality products and offering excellent customer service and we quality check everything we sell. Therefore, we have very little warranty service problems.
  • On Site Watch Repairs - Watch repairs performed by our Graduate Horologist will have a limited warranty, for the initial repair only, for a period of 6 months from the date the work is completed or the promise date of completion, not from the date the watch is claimed by the owner. Their warranties are generally for a period of 6 months from the date of the repair invoice and for the original repair only. Generally their repair warranties are not written but implied. In this case, Schuck Jewelers will work with our customer and the service firm as a liaison to bring the damaged or defective item of jewelry back to the proper state of use at a minimal additional cost to our customer. Under no circumstance does Schuck Jewelers issue a written warranty of performance in lieu of an absent repair warranty from the service firm.
  • Materials Used in Repairs - We use the finest materials and genuine factory replacement parts if applicable or when requested by the customer. Materials used may or may not have a performance warranty from the manufacturer. See above sections for additional statements regarding material warranties restrictions and exceptions.
  • Product Liability - We assume product liability and warranty only as defined by the Ohio Revised Code, Sec. 2305.33 et.al. This places the responsibility of the product on the manufacturer under most cases and not on the re-seller.
